CARLA was seized from a clandestine zoo where she was living in an extremely filthy stall, surrounded by a dozen other pigs, in over a metre of manure. When she arrived at the shelter, she had scabs of dirt covering her body, testifying to the deplorable conditions in which she had been kept.

Although CARLA remains fierce towards humans, she is curious and observant of her new environment. With other pigs, on the other hand, she is very sociable, integrating easily into the group and establishing bonds with her fellow creatures. With time and proper care, CARLA may be able to overcome her distrust and learn to appreciate human interaction.

The animal must live with at least one other conspecific and have access to water.
